Care students and staff at South Birmingham College helped raise nearly £150 for the Alzheimer’s Society during its annual Memory Walk.
The staff and students gave up their Saturday morning to take part in the 2km walk around Cannon Hill Park. Students and staff across the College supported the walkers by donating money to collection buckets.
Care tutor Sarah Eden said the students really enjoyed the morning:
“There were stalls and activities alongside the walk so it was great fun. About 120 people took part in the walk and it was a nice opportunity for the students to be part of this event. Walkers were invited to fill out an ‘I’m remembering…’ card which was added to the Memory Wall around the bandstand – and there were some very moving messages posted on there.”
Alzheimer’s Society spokeswoman Gerardine Sykes said she was delighted the students got involved with the Memory Walk.
“We were very pleased that the students joined our event. As well as helping to raise important funds this is also an event which raises awareness of dementia. We are hoping to work closely with the College in the future so it’s great that the connection has been made.
Memory Walk is Alzheimer’s Society's biggest annual fundraiser, and all money goes to support people with dementia and their carers.
