Studying Catering & Hospitality at South Birmingham College will equip you with the necessary professional skills, practical ability and flair to excel in your career. With a range of specialist staff and extensive equipment to aid them, our students are able to study in modern training facilities which include our on-site restaurant Karibunis. Karibunis is open to the public and reflects today’s cosmopolitan good tastes from around the world. There’s something to satisfy everyone! If you’d like to take a culinary journey around the world with dim sum, chicken tikka, Thai beef rendang, curried goat, homemade pasta dishes and a range of mouth watering desserts then you must try our excellent training restaurant, Karibunis. Karibunis is open Tuesday to Friday from 12.00pm - 2.30pm
and 7.00pm - 10.00pm.

Duration: 1-2 years, there is a placement of 1-2 weeks in the industry | Fee: £4,100

Are there any entry requirements?

To enrol on this course you will need a level 2 qualification or relevant experience, please refer
to the NQF Table on page 7 to find out more information. To begin this course you will also be required to have a short Basic Skills assessment and attend an interview with the course tutor to make sure that the course suits your aspirations.

What will I study?

You will learn through a combination of practical delivery, group work, demonstrations and self-study.
This practical programme will provide you with an excellent foundation for pursuing a career in the Catering Industry. You will gain hands-on experience whilst working in the College’s training restaurant, which is open to the public.

The units you will study include:
• Managing yourself
• Preparing and cooking complex meat and poultry products
• Cooking and finishing complex fish dishes
• Sauces and soups
• Cooking complex pasta dishes
• Developing knowledge of vegetarian food

What can I do after this course?

On successful completion of this course you could progress onto university to study a Degree in Hospitality Management.
