Are there any entry requirements?
This course is ideal if you are currently employed in Carpentry & Joinery.
If your GCSE grades are below C you will be required to study Key Skills as
a mandatory part of your Apprenticeship.
What will I study?
You will study through a combination of practical and theoretical skills to
form a skill base and understanding of the trade.
You will study the following main units:
Power tools
Transferring levels
Fixing ironmongery and door furniture
Encasing pipes and baths
External doors
Scaffolding
Storage of materials
Joists and joist coverings - trusses
Stud partitions and stairs
Fixing internal mouldings
Health & Safety
Internal doors
Frames and linings
Wall and floor units
Safety footwear is essential for workshop practical activities. You will need
to supply your own stationery.
What can I do after this course?
This course will provide you with the skills necessary for employment in the
industry as a Carpenter & Joiner with an NVQ 2 and a Level 2 Diploma: Carpentry
& Joinery. On successful completion of this course you could progress onto
higher level courses like the Advanced Apprenticeship, Advanced Construction
Award or the Level 3 Diploma: Carpentry & Joinery.
