DIPLOMA: PAINTING & DECORATING

Are there any entry requirements?
This course is ideal if you wish to embark on a career in the Construction Industry as a Painter & Decorator. To enrol on this course you will need GSCEs at grade G and above. If your grades are below C you will be required to study Key Skills as a mandatory part of your course. You will also be committed to pursuing a career in the Construction Industry. You do not need to be employed in the industry to join this course although work experience would be to your advantage.

What will I study?
You will study through a combination of practical and theoretical skills to form a skill base and initial understanding of the trade.

You will study the following main units:
Making good surfaces
Preparing paint materials
Applying undercoat by brush
Applying gloss paint by brush
Painting a flush door
Painting a panelled door
Painting broad areas and linear work
Applying lining paper
Applying set and drop patterned wallpaper
Applying random match paper
Know how to and carry out safe working practices

Safety footwear is essential for workshop practical activities. You will need to supply your own stationery.

What can I do after this course?
On successful completion of this course you will have gained a basic grounding in the skills necessary to become a Painter & Decorator and be prepared for a craft level qualification. You could also continue your training and progress onto a Level 2 Diploma: Painting & Decorating.
