Are there any entry requirements?
This course is ideal if you are in relevant employment or working in the industry
as a systems designer and your employer is prepared for you to attend college
1 day per week for 2 years. It is also suitable if you work in estimating, sales,
commissioning or contracting staff and need a formal qualification.
To enrol on this course you will need to have one of the following:
NVQ 2
4 GCSEs grade C or above including Maths and Science
If you are a mature student with experience in the industry, come and talk
to us about your experience.
What will I study?
You will study the following units:
Year 1:
Health & Safety
Analytical methods
Construction and the environment
Heating
Technology and design
Science and materials
Employer related project
Year 2:
Health & Safety
Building services science
Electrical principles
Ventilation and Air-Conditioning
Thermofluids
Service controls
Employer related project
The programme is mainly theoretical in nature. The Chartered Institute of Building
Services Engineers will accept applications from Certificate holders or membership
in the grade of Licentiate and then for registration as Technician Engineer
with the Engineering Council.
What can I do after this course?
On successful completion of this course you could progress onto the HNC Building
Services: Heating Ventilation & Air-Conditioning. Or you could add supplementary
subjects in the second year of the National Certificate programme to progress
onto Degree courses at university.
