Are there any entry requirements?
This nationally recognised qualification is ideal if you are working and training
in a professional environment. To enrol on this course you will need to have
at least one of the following:
BTEC First Certificate or Diploma in a related subject
An intermediate NVQ in a related subject
4 GCSEs grades A*-C in Science, Maths, and English would be desirable
Appropriate knowledge or experience gained at work or from other related qualifications
What will I study?
This is a practical, work-related course. You will learn by completing projects
and assignments that are based on realistic work place situations, activities
and demands. You will learn about the employment area you have chosen and develop
the skills you need to start a career.
You will study the following 12 units:
Core units:
Health, safety and welfare
Construction and the environment
Construction technology and design
Construction science and materials
Analytical methods
Compulsory specialised units:
Planning, organisation and control of resources
Graphical detailing
Surveying process
Building technology
Building surveying
Plus 2 of the following:
Measuring, tendering and estimating processes
Environmental science
ICT and CAD
What can I do after this course?
BTEC National Certificates are valued by employers and higher education.
On successful completion of this course you could progress onto technical or
professional positions in the industry. Employment opportunities will be opened
within various fields such as Architectural Design, Estimating, Planning, Buying,
Surveying, Property, Housing, Site Engineer, Site Technician, Site Supervision,
Valuation, Building Control, Land Surveying and Town Planning. You could also
progress onto the HNC: Construction or a related subject at Degree level.
