Are there any entry requirements?

This course is ideal if you are a mature student. To enrol on this course you will need to have a National Certificate/Diploma in Construction or Civil Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.

However, entry can be made at the discretion of the College based on accredited prior learning.

What will I study?
You will study through a series of academic modules, which include an element of group work, tutorials, lectures, presentations and a large amount of self-study. You will need to pass 10 units to achieve the full certificate.

You will study the following main units:
Design principles and applications
Science and materials
Analytical methods
Management principles and applications
Group project
Health, safety and welfare
Technology (a)
Technology (b)
Building services engineering and technology
Site surveying procedure.

What can I do after this course?
This is a higher level course, which has credibility with employers in its own right; it also acts as a bridge between further education and Degree level.

On successful completion of this course you could progress onto professional level careers in the Construction Industry or study for a Degree in Construction at Birmingham City University. This course also allows entry onto professional membership courses e.g. Chartered Institute of Building.
